Iran-India direct refrigerated container service launched

Date : 1402/8/18

Direct refrigerated container service between Iran's southeastern port of Chabahar and Inidian ports has been launched, a local official has said.

The director-general of Sistan and Baluchistan's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Qassem Askari told IRNA on Wednesday that as a result of launching the service, importing, exporting and transiting of refrigerated products from Chabahar port to Indian port destinations and from Indian origin to Chabahar has been provided.

He added that the facility of launching of direct refrigerated container shipping lines for products through sea transportation, reduces the costs of export of horticultural products, agricultural and fishery products from Chabahar.

Referring to the reactivation of export of refrigerated and horticultural products from Chabahar, this provincial official said that exporting refrigerated container cargo through Chabahar port to India's Nhava Sheva port with a transfer fee of $600 per 40-foot refrigerated container is being provided.

On October 28, 2023, IRNA DAILY newspaper had announced that a contract will be finalized with India on the development of Iran’s southeastern port of Chabahar within the next two weeks, an Iranian deputy minister of roads said.

Accordingly, Ali Akbar Safaei — who is also the CEO of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of Iran — announced that the previously agreed details of the contract between Iran and India on the development of Chabahar have changed.
