Iranian Member of Parliament Alireza Abbasi has hailed the recent inauguration of Phase 11 of the South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf, saying that the move put an end to 22-year “procrastination” by foreign contractors.
Abbasi, who represents the city of Karaj in parliament, said in an interview with IRNA on Thursday that the achievement was made thanks to relying on domestic capabilities.
This strategy should be continued in order to attain bigger improvements, including the export of technology in the oil and gas sector, he added.
On August 28, 2023, Iran started gas production from Phase 11 of the South Pars Gas Field after a 22-year hiatus caused by what the authorities described as the failure by French energy giant, Total, and other foreign contractors to implement the project.
According to the Oil Ministry, production from Phase 11 increases Iran’s gas output by 56 million cubic meters.
